Peas Pilau(Pulao)

Matar pulao features rice and tasty peas with onions and aromatic spices and can be prepared entirely in a pressure cooker or in a pan on a stovetop.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups rice,washed and soaked for 1/2 hours
  • 1,1/2 cup peas
  • 2 large onions
  • 3 fresh tomatoes,chopped
  • 3 potatoes,peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon coriander/cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
  • 2 sticks of cinnamon
  • 5 black peppercorns
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 pods of cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 4 green chillies,slit
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1,1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 5,1/4 cups water

Instructions
 

  • Fry onions in oil until very light brown
  • Mix cinnamon, Cardamom, cloves, peppercorn, cumin seeds and garlic with 1/4 cup of water and pour into the above saucepan; cover for a few seconds.
  • Remove the lid and add tomatoes, chilli., powdered spices and 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Cook until sauce is blended and then add peas and potatoes; cook for 5 minutes an low heat
  • When vegetables are half cooked add 5 cups of water and the remaining salt
  • Bring to boil and add the drained rice
  • Increase heat and allow to boil for few minutes
  • Lower heat and simmer until rice is cooked and water is absorbed
