
Subway Sandwich Bread
Soft, fluffy homemade sandwich bread with a light crust, perfect for making subs, rolls, and loaded sandwiches.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
Activate yeast:
- In a bowl mix warm water, sugar, and yeast.
- Let it rest for 3–5 minutes until frothy.
Mix dry ingredients:
- In a large bowl combine flour and salt.
- Add olive oil and mix.
Form the dough:
- Pour the yeast mixture into the flour and mix to form a rough dough.
Knead:
- Transfer to a surface and knead for 5–8 minutes until smooth and soft.
- The dough should bounce back when pressed.
First rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled.
Shape:
- Punch down the dough and knead lightly for 2 minutes.
- Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into long logs.
Second rise:
- Place on a baking tray, cover, and let rise again for about 30 minutes until puffy.
Bake:
- Preheat oven to 180°C.
- Brush with olive oil and bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
Cool and serve:
- Remove from oven, brush lightly with oil, cover with a cloth, and let cool.
- Slice and fill as desired.
