
Tea Time Twisties
Soft, fluffy braided fried dough coated in sweet syrup, perfect for tea-time indulgence with a delightful twist.
Ingredients
- 6 cups cake flour
- 4 cups self-raising flour
- 180 grams butter melted
- 2 eggs
- 500 ml buttermilk
- 1 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 packets yeast
- Lukewarm water as needed
- Oil for frying
For Sugar Syrup:
- 2 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
Instructions
Prepare the dough:
- In a large bowl mix all dry ingredients.
- Add melted butter, eggs, and buttermilk.
- Mix to form a soft dough.
- Add lukewarm water if needed.
Knead:
- Knead the dough lightly for 20–30 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Rest the dough:
- Cover and let the dough rest for at least 1 hour until it rises.
Shape twisties:
- Roll dough into a long sausage.
- Cut small pieces and roll each into 8 cm strips.
- Join 2–3 strips and plait.
Fry:
- Heat oil on medium heat.
- Deep fry twisties until golden brown.
- emove and drain excess oil.
Prepare syrup:
- In a pan add sugar and water.
- Simmer on low heat until slightly thick and syrupy.
Coat and serve:
- Dip or drizzle syrup over warm twisties.
- Serve fresh.
